“Cinema-Less City” program is held at the Fire Station in Makarska, Croatia with the goal of promoting documentary film-making and building an audience in the city and the near region.

The city of Makarska has been without a functioning movie theater and film distribution for over 15 years. We showcase the best documentary features from recent Croatian production, as well as hold special screenings for kids, screenings of documentary classics and screenings organized with friendly local civic associations (such as the Association of People with Disabilities “Sunce”).

DokuMA Film Festival” is an international documentary film festival held in Makarska, Croatia, EU.
The goals of the festival are encouraging multiculturalism, promotion of EU cinema and creating a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences. Each year we welcome an official PARTNER NATION from the European Union. Our partners so far were the Czech Republic (2014), the Republic of Poland (2015) and the Kingdom of Denmark (2016).

The core structure of the festival program are the short documentary International Competition LITTLE GARMAZ (MG), the PARTNER NATION revue (FZP) and FEATURE HIT FILMS (DHF). The rest of the program varies according to the festival’s yearly concept.

Regional educational “Dokuma CrossBorder” program started as an idea of gathering film students and mentors from the former Yugoslavian region and providing a place for a constructive and creative exchange of ideas.

The idea evolved into a project that includes a documentary workshop, MasterClass lectures of internationally renowned film professionals and educators and a showcase for regional student films. The workshop already produced short documentaries that were recognized on the festival scene (“British in Makarska” and “The Last of the Gulls”) and also helped form new creative teams with students from different regional countries who continued to work together on new projects after initially meeting at Dokuma CrossBorder in Makarska.

Croatian Children’s Film Festival is the only manifestation in Croatia dedicated exclusively to elementary school film making. 54th edition was held from 5th to 8th October 2016 in Makarska.
