From 5th to 8th October Makarska was the host to the oldest Croatian Children’s film festival.
Croatian Children’s Film Festival is the only manifestation in Croatia dedicated exclusively to elementary school film making. Best young film makers and their mentors get together once a year, every time in a different city. And not only that. In four days of the festival, top elementary school films are presented on screen.
The organizers of 54th CCFF were Croatian Film Association and Dokuma CA, sponsored by Croatian Association of Technical Culture, Croatian Audiovisual Centre, City of Makarska, Makarska Tourist Board and Makarska Hotels, partnered by “Lanterna” Advisory Center and Association of People with Disabilities “Sunce”.
During a whole week of film, education and fun 83 films (live action, documentary, animated, TV report, free-form) were screened as a part of the official competition, judged by the international children’s jury as well as a jury of professionals that included producer Jacqueline Cosgrove, journalist Maja Flego, cinematographer Boris Poljak, director Kristina Kumrić and animator Petra Zlonoga.
Extra programs included the Regional Conference on Children’s Rights and Media Literacy, stop-animation workshop for disabled children and adults from “Sunce”, “How to be a Jury” workshop for the international children’s jury and an educational film-poster exhibit “Children and Film” with content provided by Croatian National Archive.
This caravan of fun will move to Sisak next year, and we wish the new hosts all the best.
